Underworld man injured at Athens festival

Underworld were forced to cancel their set at the Ejekt Festival in Athens, Greece on Saturday (June 16), due to a riot caused by masked individuals.

According to a statement issued by the band, Underworld's Rick Smith was injured when 30 masked anarchists armed with CS gas, iron bars and baseball bats stormed the stadium at approximately 11:20 pm while the Beastie Boys were performing.

The masked rioters burned vehicles and damaged property, injuring several people and causing the stadium to be evacuated.

Smith and others who suffered injuries were taken to a nearby Athens hospital. Smith has since returned to the UK for further treatment.

Underworld are gearing up to release a new album this fall, as previously reported.
