Usher has joined Beyonce and Nelly Furtado in giving money he received from the Gaddafi family for a private gig to charity.

The US singer performed for Colonel Gaddafi's son Muanmar at a private party on New Year's Eve in 2009 for a fee reported to be $1 million (£613,000). He has now signalled that he will give the money away.

He told ABC News: "I am sincerely troubled to learn about the circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St Barts event that took place on New Year's Eve 2009. I will be donating all of my personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organisations."

Beyonce performed at the same event as Usher, and announced last week (March 3) that she had given her fee from the concert to the Haiti relief fund.

Mariah Carey played a set at a similar event a year earlier.
