Tom Smith and co get the crowd moving with early slot

Editors brought their gloom-rock to a sunny V Festival today (August 18) in Chelmsford, with a performance on the V Stage.

Frontman Tom Smith started his band's set at 2.30pm today in typically energetic form, pacing the stage and holding his hands aloft during opener 'An End Has A Start'.

The show was an uncharacteristic early-afternoon festival slot for the band, who had played late evening slots at the Wireless, T In The Park and Glastonbury festivals earlier in the year.

Opening with 'An End Has A Start', the band played a that set cherry-picked highlights from their two albums, with Smith encouraging fans to clap along to the likes of 'All Sparks' and 'Munich'.

During 'The Racing Rats' Smith sat sideways-on at his piano, and slurped from a mug of tea between singing lines.

He upped the rock n roll ante somewhat during closer 'Fingers In The Factory', mounting his guitar amp and leaping off it before the closing chorus, to mass cheering.

Editors played:

'An End Has A Start'
'All Sparks'
'Blood'
'The Racing Rats'
'Bullets'
'When Anger Shows'
'Munich'
'Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors'
'Fingers In The Factories'
