Kasabian 'V Festival is the perfect farewell

Band say 'goodbye' to album 'Empire' at Weston Park

Kasabian said farewell to second album 'Empire' with a storming set at V Festival in Stafford tonight (August 18).

Playing their last big British gigs of the year, the band declared their set ahead of headliners The Killers, was the best way to send off the record before beginning work on their third.

"This is the swansong for 'Empire'," guitarist Serge Pizzorno told NME.COM. "We've got some gigs lined-up but this these are the last big shows. Both these shows are the perfect farewell, it's the big 'Thank you, see you on the next record."

The band's songwriter added that they wanted to go out with a bang.

"We've got all guns blazing," he declared. "We want to blow The Killers off the stage, in the nicest way possible."

Kicking off with a clear intent to party, frontman Tom Meighan led the band and the big crowd through a series of favourites that got the energy levels pulsing.

"How you doing Stafford, how you doing?" asked the singer ahead of title track 'Empire', before urging the crowd to "Come on!"

With the set mixing the likes of 'ID', 'Me Plus One' and 'The Doberman' it was the climatic final few songs that drove Weston Park wild.

Firstly 'Club Foot' saw the crowd break out into a frenzy, then with Meighan teasing the crowd with the first couple bars of limited edition single 'Fast Fuse', before the band and fans
united in voice for a massive singalong of 'LSF'.
