Jarvis Cocker re-lives Pulp's V Festival experience

Jarvis Cocker played a solo set at tonight (August 18) at the Chelmsford leg of the V Festival, and referred to his festival experiences with his old band Pulp.

The singer and the Shefffield played one of the early V Festivals, appearing back in 1996 as headliners.

Before playing 'I Will Kill Again', Cocker saidL "In '96 me and [Pulp bassist] Steve Mackay walked around the site in gorilla suits."

He then added, jokingly as he was wearing a suit jacket and brown shirt, "Today I walked around the site dressed as a dildo, and as you can see, I haven't changed."

Later in the set, ahead of 'Big Stuff', Cocker paid tribute to the late songwriter Lee Hazlewood.

"One of my favourite songwriters died a few weeks ago - Lee Hazlewood," he explained. "I wanted him to sing this song, but it never happened."

Cocker went on to perform songs from his self-titled solo album, and closed his set with a raptuously-received cover of 'Paranoid' by Black Sabbath.
