Band say fans should vote – but not necessarily for whoever they're supporting
Vampire Weekend have spoken to urge American citizens to vote in the US Presidential Election next month – although not necessarily the same way they are set to make their choice.
In an exclusive NME.COM video, which you can see below, bassist Chris Baio said he and his bandmates would be voting for Democrat nominee Barack Obama on November 4 – but that fans should vote for whoever they feel is the best nominee, not just who the band is voting for.
"He [Obama] is still a politician, and it's not like if he gets elected he'll fix everything," Baio said. "But he's the one who on almost every issue we agree with more.
"There are plenty of clichés about musicians supported left-leaning politicians. We're voting for Obama - but people should vote based on what they believe after looking at issues, not because we support him."
