Vampire Weekend are not sure they've written one of the summer's anthems, despite critics tipping them to shine at festivals including this weekend's Glastonbury.

The New York band play the Pyramid Stage on Friday (June 25) and have been surprised to hear that their latest single 'Holiday' has been tipped as a summer sing-a-long.

Bass player Chris Baio told NME: "I read that [it's the summer's anthem] in Intelligent Life at the airport. They had summer anthems, things like 'Hey Jude', a Pavement song, 'Last Nite' and 'Holiday'."

However, frontman Ezra Koenig has his doubts about the song's summer-friendly potential, as its lyrics reference the first Gulf War: "I don't know if it's the most feel-good song necessarily, it feels good to play it but… there's stuff going on there."

However, the singer promises a festival-friendly show nonetheless: "At festivals you can put together a pretty bombastic set. It's going to be our first time on the Pyramid Stage, so that's an honour."

For the full interview with Vampire Weekend, check out this week's issue of NME, dated June 26.

NME will be coming live from Glastonbury throughout the weekend. Head to NME.COM/glastonbury for the latest festival news.
