Vampire Weekend close Latitude 2010 with headline set

The band top the bill for the first time at UK festival

Vampire Weekend closed this year's Latitude last night (July 18), playing their first ever UK festival headline slot.

The band played the Suffolk event's largest stage, the Obelisk Arena - coming onstage ten minutes late as their equipment was delayed arriving from Portugal, where the group had performed on Saturday (July 17).

The New York four-piece followied on from Florence And The Machine and Belle & Sebastian, who had topped the bill on the same stage on the festival's previous days.

The band performed songs including opener and recent single 'Holiday' along with 'Horchata' and set-closer 'Walcott'.

There was no sign of Vampire Weekend's normal backdrop, the cover of new album 'Contra'. The New York four-piece are being sued for $2million (£1.3million) by Kirsten Kennis, whose picture appears on the cover.

Before the show frontman Ezra Koenig had told NME that following their next tour the band would probably take a step away from the limelight. adding, "tot to work on our tans, just to be creative".

The final day of the festival also boasted sets from Grizzly Bear, Yeasayer, Sigur Ros frontman Jonsi and Tom Jones, who had also played an intimate set on the eve of the event on Thursday (July 15).

The closing day of Latitude also saw a press conference from organiser Melvin Benn who said he was "distraught" and working with police after two rapes were reported during the festival.
