Meet Me In St Louis split up

Hardcore band call it a day

Guildford hardcore band Meet Me In St Louis have split up.

The band's singer, Toby Haytes, left the group towards the tail end of 2007.

The group continued for a few months without him but have since made the decision to dissolve the band after their drummer, Paul Phillips, also decided he was leaving.

Meet Me In St Louis released their debut album, ‘Variations On Swing’, in September last year.

In a statement, the band said of Phillips' departure: “It came as a shock to the rest of us, as our plans for the next few months were extremely positive after such a bumpy ride at the end of 2007.

“When Toby left, we all felt pretty low, but we got through it because we knew that the music would be written by the same four people and essentially be the same.

“Although he had input musically it was minimal and was mainly focused on vocal melodies and lyrics. We were able to carry on with confidence and either get a new singer or continue instrumentally. Unfortunately the same could not be said in this instance.”

The band thanked their friends, family and fans for their support during their time in the band.

I'd already heard this on the rumour mill the other night and the official announcement today but it's still upsetting. I think they did the right thing though and I understand all the reasons behind it.

P.S. It's Toby Hayes

Im so gutted. I was meant to be going to see them tonight, I got the album off itunes after hearing like 30 seconds of them and instantly fell in love. I hope the music will live on, and new projects will come up. The music was so unique, and so much fun to... i dunno, rock out to!
