BBC Radio One DJ jailed for four years
DJ stopped in Dubai for cannabis possession
Grooverider – real name Raymond Bingham – has been jailed for four years in Dubai for cannabis possession.
The BBC Radio 1 DJ was found with 2.16 grams of cannabis in his possession at Dubai airport on November 23 last year. He claimed the drugs were in a pocket of a pair of trousers, and he had forgotten about them, reports BBC News.
Four years is the minimum sentence for drug possession in the United Arab Emirates. Bingham’s agents have indicated that they will attempt to get him released early.
Bingham presented a drum'n'bass radio show on BBC Radio 1 at the weekends. A spokesperson for the station said: “Grooverider has paid a very high price for a serious mistake.”
