Mass violence spreads as emos march for peace

A wave of violence against emo kids is spreading across Mexico, with the music fans being attacked by mobs in the street, and further threats of large-scale attacks in Tijuana during the forthcoming Feria de San Marcos, the annual national fair.

The attacks are reportedly coming from metal, punk and rockabilly music fans who dislike the emo look and attitude, according to LA Weekly’s Daniel Hernandez.

The violent attacks are partly being blamed on an on-air rant by ‘Televisa’ TV personality Kristoff who recently called emo ‘fucking bullshit’. Kristoff subsequently called for an end to the violence but it is thought he make take the fall if the government blames Televisa for the trouble.

On March 7 around 800 young people in the city of Querataro amassed against emos in the city resulting in many violent attacks, and a week later a similar incident occurred in Mexico City. Emos in both cities responded to the attacks by marching peacefully through the center of the cities.

Meanwhile, Chile is also seeing a wave of violence against emo, with TV station Chilevision showing an attack on a group of PokEMOns by skinheads. Emo’s in Chile are known as PokEMOns.

Just goes to show how shallow the world's coming to. I'm not a huge fan on emo music, but I think it's disgusting the way you can attack someone on the way they dress.

This can't be for real. PokEMOns! Ridiculous.
I feel for anyone getting hurt for voicing an opinion though.

What a shame! Here in Mexico we all feel baffled by these signs of ignorance & bigotry among our people....
(just as clarification, Feria de San Marcos is not a national fair and it's held at another city called Aguascalientes, miles away from Tijuana)

I hope they don't cancel Kristoff's show, he never motivated the attacks, he just expressed that he thought the emo movement was stupid.

It's not Kristoff's falt... he was just giving a point of view as he said later on his program, I don't think they are going to do something to him, people has said more awful things on tv! come on!

first off: bigotry and ignorance are in context with racism and ethnicity, not a fucking fasion trend based on whining and complaining. Second, punk and emo are nothing the same, you dont see punks or skins walking around whining about their sorry lives or cutting them selves and ruining thier makeup from crying and feeling sorry for themselves. Punk is a life style and an made by individuals, not some popular trend based on a bunch of ungrateful, sophmoric, self loathing children who live out of myspace and facebook. fuck you, and fuck emo and its trendy ass scam!

To respond the comment above that said comment and punk are similar, the difference is pretty clear, emos don't really care about music, they care about trends they want to be like punks but not know anything and look cute

ok this is ridiculous
if anything I would be classed as an emo and to respond to the person that put emos dont care about music well i've got news for you they evidently do. if they didn't why would there be so many 'emo' bands around. yeah its also a style and its about the way you look but its stemed from music and not all people that like emo stuff slit their wrists. i think it is stupid that people are being attacked for what they like and how they dress, how would punks like it if they started getting attacked because of what they wore and what they listened to?? i think that its fine not to like emos but condoning violence towards a group of people is wrong.

this is rediculous whoever is doing this should read all the stories that have been in the news about an English girl called Sophie Lanchaster . she got kicked to death because she was a goth . people need to look under the clothes and makeup and the music and see people for who they are and not what they look like .the world is really turning into a horrible place to be everyone who picks on somebody because they arnt the same as you should be ashamed (here is 2 articals about sophie R.I.P) 1. Rock fans Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Robert Maltby were the victims of an unprovoked attack in Bacups Stubbylee Park in the early hours of August 11 2007. According to reports in the Metro newspaper, as Sophie and Robert walked through the park, a gang of five boys (aged between 15-17) whom Lancaster and Maltby had earlier been talking with, suddenly turned into a 'pack of wild animals' and began kicking and stamping on Roberts head. They then began to attack Lancaster, as she tried to protect her head.New evidence has now recently come to the attention of the jury working on the case, in the form of a 999 call, made by a hysterical teenager who witnessed the attack. As the girl explains the situation, an unknown voice can be heard shouting "Oy, get the f*** off him now!" and another voice says "He's on the floor man, he's practically f***ing dead". The girl caller explains the injuries to the operator, and he tells her to stem the blood flow. When it doesn't appear to be working the girl says "It's all over their hands, all coming out of their eyes, all out their nose and everything. Please just help us quick. They're just laid there will blood all over their face, they can't even move, they just look like dummies."Paramedics say that Sophie was beaten so badly, that they could not tell what sex she was. Sophie died 14 days later, aged just 20, when her family decided to turn off her life support machine, after being told by doctors that there was no chance of recovery. Maltby managed to make one last emotional visit to see Sophie before her parents made the decision.Michael Shorrock QC said that, "the gang had turned on the young couple in the park in Lancaster simply because they were goths and dressed differently." Both Sophie and Robert's family, who say that the couple were often singled out because of their clothing and body piercings, share a similar view.According to a Lancashire news report, two of the attackers are remanded in custody, the other three are on bail. Metro reveals that one boy aged 15, denies the murder, saying he took no part in it, however, The Times are reporting that a 16-year-old has admitted to taking part in the manslaughter of Sophie. The case continues2. A Preston court has found two teenage boys guilty of murdering a 20-year-old rock fan in a Lancashire park. In the early hours of August 11, 2007, 20-year-old Sophie Lancaster was kicked to death by a gang of drunken teens in an unprovoked, brutal attack on her and her boyfriend, Robert Maltby, 21.Preston Crown Court were told the gang of five teenagers involved in the attack were said to be drinking heavily before the assault and behaved "like a pack of wild animals".The gang attacked the couple from Bacup, Lancashire, because they dressed differently, kicking and punching Lancaster before stamping on Maltby's head until he was unconscious.Lancaster died two weeks after sustaining injuries so horrific that paramedics called to the scene could not tell if she was male or female. Maltby has still not fully recovered from his appalling injuries.Brendan Harris, 15, and Ryan Herbert, 16, were found guilty of murder, while three other boys, two aged 17 and one 16, have admitted assault and await sentencing on April 28. "I want them to suffer forever," Maltby said of the gang after the court hearing on March 27. "She should have run off and left me to die. I think that whatever happens to them can never be as bad as what I want to happen. I want them to never stop suffering for what they have done. I want it to be a life-long thing."Now I wake up in the morning and I'm on my own," he concluded. "It feels like someone nicked my entire life. I always thought there was one person for everyone. If mine's gone, what am I going to do now?"Judge Anthony Russell QC said Harris and Herbert will receive life sentences. "I am convinced Sophie was killed simply because of the way she looked," he said. "She did not conform to the ideals of those who took her life. We need to show respect, compassion and tolerance for those whose culture differs from our own."A memorial fund has been set up in Sophie's name. Details can be found at www.myspace.com/inmemoryofsophie. "The aims of the fund will be to provide a lasting legacy to raise awareness of the injustice perpetrated against Sophie and to work towards a more tolerant, less violent society," says her mother Sylvia Lancaster.

I think this is all just bullshit. The way you look doesn't matter. All that matters is, what is inside. I can't understand why people allways forget that. And yeah. I mean,, this just kinda look like worldwar 2. All those thoughts of hitler are allmost the same as now.. He was like, all jews have to die. N they are, all emo's have to die. I mean, thats allmost the same. And it just sucks, cuz they don't even know those other peeps. o.O But yeah.. Those ppl are just dumb I guess.. ö
