Alex Zane suspended from Xfm Breakfast show

Radio DJ aired self-penned song about rape on his show

Alex Zane suspended from Xfm Breakfast show

Alex Zane has been suspended from presenting his breakfast show on Xfm.

Last Wednesday (August 20) the DJ played a song he wrote about rape called 'I Won't Take No For An Answer'.

The track was written in the same style as Sixties' singer Mike Sarne - who recorded similar risqué songs such as 'Dodgy Looking Bird' and 'Come Outside'.

According to CMU Daily the station released a statement saying: "On Wednesday morning, the breakfast show broadcast an item that, in the view of station management, was distasteful and likely to cause offence. As a result, the breakfast team has been suspended, pending a formal disciplinary process."

The station broadcast a full apology at 7.20am on Thursday August 21.

The statement from Xfm concluded: "We are sorry for any offence caused."

Radio personality Dave Berry will stand in for Zane until September 1.

It's not the first time the breakfast show has been in the spotlight after Alex Zane had a public feud with The Enemy and refused to play their records on his show.
