'X Factor''s Simon Cowell planning 'Top Of The Pops' takeover?

Judge plans move show from BBC to ITV rivals

'X Factor' judge Simon Cowell has indicated he is considering buying the rights to music series 'Top Of The Pops'.

However his plans include moving the show from the BBC to rival channel ITV.

The long-running pop series was axed in 2006 after 42 years, and this year it has been announced that the annual 'Top Of The Pops Christmas Special' will no longer be shown.

Speaking at the National Television Awards in London, Cowell said he would like to resurrect the show, reports BBC News.

"I would rather it came to us than just sit in the dustbin," he said. "If the BBC wanted to do a deal, and I can get ITV to buy it and broadcast it, I'd put it on [b]ITV[b]. It's been a good year for music and I think it's part of the tradition. It's not as though people aren't interested in music at the moment. Maybe we could make it a bit more interesting."

Simon cowell would be the last person i'd wish to see in charge of a TOTP revamp...he would prioritise his own medicore acts and there would be no decent bands put on as we all know that he has an aversion to anything that isn't blond and in a mini skirt.

..........god, imaging how even more terrible TOTP's would be ran by him....its a shame it isn't 1980 and Mark Chapman is a Simon Cowell fan...

Nooo! This cannot be allowed. Can you imagine that it would be used purely as a vehicle for his blood sucking, whoring of music as entertainment rather than as was commented a couple of weeks ago, sittin down to tea with the folks, on comes James Dean Bradfield in a balaclava! There would none of that, just sterile, painful, woeful, shameful and lots of other fulls, ass wipes. it's sort of like being told that either your beloved dog who gives you lovely big licks but does quite frequently go plop plop on the carpet can either be put peacefully to sleep or can be handed over to an animal testing lab! yes they will live but god, would you want them to live like that?! If we can't have TOTP back as we should have it, Thursday night 7o'clock with Jimmy Bloody Saville, then please just leave it in peace.

maybe if they didn't insist on all acts miming and got some interviews with the bands in the mix it could be quite cool

I hope this doesn't happen.....I would sooner see the show sit in the dust bin, rather then let simon cowell get his evil hands on it!!! We all know he would just use it to launch his shit off xfactor.... God i hate that show and him.......

it'd be good to have it back.. adverts would be weird tho! like watching totp2 on dave.. just seems wrong...as long as this twat off the x factor has no visual involvement in it's return im all for it!i dont see why itv couldnt just make a similar show without needing to spend millions on rights tho!

Sorry callaby, got to disagree. I couldnt' care less about interviews. I'd rather more tracks. Nick Grimshaw sucking upto some disinterested indie-bopper fuckwit isn't what I'd want to watch!
