'Top Of The Pops' to return in 'post-'Blue Peter' timeslot'?

Campaign to bring the programme back permanently is launched

Campaigners are lobbying the BBC to bring music programme 'Top Of The Pops' back permanently - but in a more child-friendly capacity.

Music industry plugger Dylan White has asked the corporation to consider broadcasting the legendary programme between children's show 'Blue Peter' and 'The Six O'Clock News'.

White told Music Week that he believes the timeslot would appeal to younger audiences.

"The content of the programme would be driven by ['Top Of The Pops'] magazine and the Top 40, so would heavily feature the likes of High School Musical, Rihanna, Sugababes, Katy Perry and, yes, some 'X Factor' stars," he said.

Director of BBC Vision Jana Bennett said that White was "spot on regarding the core audience", but that the proposed timeslot would need more discussion due to the BBC's necessity to engage an older audience for the 'The Six O'Clock News'.

'Top Of The Pops' was axed by the BBC in 2006 after receiving low viewing figures. The programme has returned for one-off Christmas specials since its cancellation.
