Hydro Connect Festival postponed until 2010 due to credit crunch

Organisers are planning a series of 'innovative gigs' this year instead

Organisers of the Hydro Connect Festival have announced they are taking a break this year, citing difficulties with costs and the credit crunch.

Staged for the last two years in the grounds of Inveraray Castle in Argyll, Scotland, the festival has played host to the likes of Manic Street Preachers, Franz Ferdinand and Glasvegas.

It's organisers, however, have told NME.COM they now plan to bring the festival back in 2010 due to the “very high infrastructure and servicing costs incurred by staging the festival in Argyll.”

"The fact that Connect's audience is arguably affected more by the credit crunch than some other festival markets, means that it would be foolish for us to expect the growth necessary to help Connect thrive in 2009," festival boss Geoff Ellis told NME.COM.

He added that the festival will run a number of innovative "small scale" events instead, details of which would be announced soon.
