Spotify to add 'over a million' new songs

New deal signed opens up service to indie tracks

Spotify to add 'over a million' new songs

Chiefs at Spotify, the music streaming service that allows users to listen to music free, generating money from advertising, have announced that they will add "over one million" new songs to their library after signing a deal with independent music distributer CD Baby.

The deal will mean that songs by artists who have had material distributed by the company, including Regina Spektor, Gary Jules and Jack Johnson, will be available to listen to on the service.

The news comes in the same month that Spotify was forced to cull its library because of the details of deals with labels with regards to music releases in different regions.

Spotify founder Daniel Ek said that the new deal took the company "closer to our dream of gathering all the world's music in one place".
