BBC Radio 1 announces new fringe festival for Big Weekend

16 bands are set to play various Swindon venues

BBC Radio 1 has announced it is holding a Big Weekend Fringe festival.

Featuring 16 new bands handpicked by BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw Stephens, the Fringe takes place from May 4-7 in various Swindon venues.

It is the precursor to the Big Weekend, which takes place in the town's Lydiard Park on May 9-10 and features Lily Allen, Doves and Kasabian.

The following bands play the Big Weekend Fringe:

Swindon 12 Bar, May 4:
The Alfonz
The Volt
The Shebeats
The Kulucci March

Swindon The Vic, May 5:
Matt Kilford
Sleeping with Giants
Kill it Kid
Seeräuberjenny

Swindon The Furnace, May 6:
The Dead Lay Waiting
Casino Drive
Decora
Realign The Stars

Swindon Rehab, May 7:
Beat Bullyz
Para
Chew Magna
Old School Tie

All Fringe gigs are free of charge.
