Pop star arrested after being found naked and drunk in public

The singer allegedly asked police: 'What's wrong with being naked?'

A Japanese pop star has been arrested for public indecency in Tokyo.

Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, of boyband SMAP, was arrested by police in a Tokyo park in the early hours of Thursday (April 24) morning.

He was naked and shouting at the top of his voice, reports Kyodo. The singer later told police he had no idea why he ended up causing such a scene, and allegedly asked officers, ''What's wrong with being naked?''

Speaking of the ordeal, Kusanagi said: ''I regret what I did. I don't remember how I went to the park, and why I became naked."

A representative from the star's agent Johnny and Associates said Kusanagi would be temporarily relieved of his entertainment duties for the time being.

Public indecency in Japan carries a maximum of six months in jail.
