New Birmingham music venue announced

O2 Academy Birmingham opens in September

A new music venue in the centre of Birmingham is set to open this September.

The O2 Academy Birmingham will be situated on the site of the Dome nightclub in Bristol Street.

Artists including The Maccabees (October 1), Bloc Party (15) and Dizzee Rascal (17) have already been confirmed the play the venue.

The building will boast three separate gig rooms, with a combined capacity of 3,859. The main room of the venue can hold 3,009 people. The other two venues hold 600 and 250 people each.

So errm what's happening to the old three stage O2 Academy in Birmingham then?

They're going to knock it down, the whole Oasis market is being closed. It's the only Academy that still has all the Carling signs because they've been planning the move for months

It would be good if a new decent sized venue opend up that wasnt funded by a mobile phone company.

Yeah there knocking it down, the new academy will be awsome, but there needs to be more smaller venues for smaller bands god damn it birmingham!
