Pirate Bay founders denied retrial

Swedish courts rule judge in first case was not biased

Courts in Sweden have denied the founders of Pirate Bay a retrial.

The torrent aggregator claimed the judge in their first trial was biased after they were found guilty of copyright infringement.

The site’s founders claimed the original judge was compromised because he belonged to several copyright organisations, though the judge countered this, claiming he needed to be up to date with the latest developments in copyright law.

However authorities have dismissed the Pirate Bay's claim, declaring the judge was not biased.

"The court has come to the conclusion that none of these circumstances, neither alone nor together, mean there is doubt on whether the judge was objective," the courts explained in a statement, reports Ars Technica.

Although there will be no retrial, Pirate Bay have previously indicated that they will appeal their original verdict.
