Ellie Greenwich, the singer-songwriter who wrote many classic 1960s rock'n'roll songs, has reportedly died aged 68.

According to Charlotteobserver.com/239/story/909572.html, she died of a heart attack after battling pneumonia after the last few days. at St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital in New York.

Greenwich wrote hits including 'Da Doo Ron Ron', 'Be My Baby' and 'Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)'. She was inducted into the Songwriters' Hall Of Fame in 1991.

She formed a musical partnership with her husband, Jeff Barry, writing songs for acts including The Ronettes, The Crystals and The Exciters. The couple separated in 1965 but continued to write music together, including writing for Neil Diamond.

Other artists to have recorded versions of songs written by Greenwich include Elton John, Tina Turner and U2.
