Comic Steve Martin announces first UK music gig

Steve Martin has announced details of his first UK music gig as a musician.

The actor, who has starred in films including 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles', 'Father Of the Bride' and 'The Pink Panther', will play London's Royal Festival Hall next Monday (November 9).

The gig, billed as 'An Evening of Bluegrass And Banjo', will see Martin play clawhammer banjo, accompanied by his bluegrass band The Steep Canyon Rangers. The band's 2009 album 'The Crow: New Songs For The Five-String Banjo' features a collection of mostly instrumental songs with a host of guest musicians.

Support on the night comes from Mary Black, who also appears on the album.

Martin has previously played banjo on a remake of bluegrass standard 'Foggy Mountain Breakdown', which won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance in 2002.
