The Horrors, La Roux and Maximo Park were among the first to arrive at the Shockwaves NME Awards tonight (February 24).

The artists walked the red carpet at London's O2 Academy Brixton, running the gamut of waiting photographers and journalists.

The Horrors' Rhys 'Spider' Webb tipped Animal Collective and Arctic Monkeys to win tonight.

"We were playing with Kasabian in Australia recently at the Big Day Out [festival]," he said, "so we're looking forward to seeing them tonight."

La Roux's Elly Jackson agreed, saying: "Who do I want to win? I'd like to win, that'd be nice! I don't know who's up for things. Are Kasabian? Yes, I'm a big fan of them."

Guitarist Jamie MacColl from Bombay Bicycle Club revealed that the awards marked his first ever proper red carpet appearance. "There's a lot of flashing lights! Is it my first red carpet? I went to a Shrek premiere once..."

Maximo Park frontman Paul Smith also arrived early, and said this year's ceremony was a special occasion for him.

"This is our hat-trick [attending three times]," he said. "Who do I expect to win? Lots of mediocre acts will win and we'll be internally furious but we'll be too busy drinking free booze to care."
