Apple announces iPad shipping details

Apple's iPad will go on sale in the US on April 3.

The new tablet computer, which was launched by Steve Jobs at the Apple convention in January, will be available to buy (in both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models) in the UK and other countries across the world from the end of April.

US customers can pre-order iPads from next Friday (March 12), with prices starting from $499 (£310).

Speaking about the product, which delivers battery life of up to 10 hours, Jobs said: "We're excited for customers to get their hands on this magical and revolutionary product and connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before."

The iPad will be able to run iPhone applications, play HD video, download iTunes music and allow owners to browse the internet.
