Record Store Day 2010 to boast 'most exclusive releases yet' say organisers
Organisers of the UK leg of Record Store Day say this year's event which feature the most exclusive releases so far.

Started in 2008 after learning about the US event which encourages music fans to shop and support their local independent record shop, this year's event, taking place on Saturday (April 17), will feature the largest number of exclusive releases for the day yet.

"Last year was great but this year’s really firing," explained Spencer Hickman who as manager of the Rough Trade East in London is helping to co-ordinate the event. "It’s got a bit easier, I haven’t been going begging for releases, people have been going, 'We've got this unreleased Rolling Stones single, do you want it?' There’s been such a wealth, the best thing is there’s been such a cross-section. It goes from Crystal Castles to Bruce Springsteen, Foals to The Stones. There’s just lots of exciting stuff."

Hickman added that with the event taking place on both side of the Atlantic this year, Record Store Day is a truly international event.

"This year it’s just gone really crazy, it’s gone from being this American thing to being this international huge deal," he explained. "There’s someone in the Netherlands who’s called in 60 stores over there and someone just this week emailed saying, ‘Can I do it for Sweden?’ It’s really embedded into the conscience over there. It’s really rewarding to see it all snowball and come together."
