Police investigating rape of a woman at Latitude Festival

Teenage girl attacked at Suffolk event

Police investigating rape of a woman at Latitude Festival
A teenage festivalgoer has been raped by a group of men at the Latitude Festival, according to a statement released today (July 16) by the Suffolk Constabulary.

The 19-year-old woman was subjected to the attack at around 10pm (BST) last night (July 15), shortly after the festival opened.

The girl had left her tent to look for a toilet and asked a group of three or four males for directions. They reportedly said they would show her the way before grabbing and assaulting her.

The teenager then reported the incident to festival security, who alerted police. A search is now on to trace the men involved, and police are reminding festivalgoers to be vigilant and aware of their personal security.

Officers are asking anyone who may have seen a young woman wearing jeans, a yellow and cream top and a black cardigan with a small group of males on the site around 10–10.30pm last night, or anyone who may have witnessed the incident itself, to come forward.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Suffolk Constabulary on 01473 613500.

Melvin Benn from Festival Republic who organised Latitude said: "Festival Republic are taking the allegation very seriously and are liaising closely with Suffolk Police in their investigation. We have significant sympathy for the victim of this most awful act and are so shocked that it should happen here."
