Matt Smith: 'Doctor Who will face his darkest days in new series' - TV News
Doctor Who star Matt Smith has said that The Doctor will face his "darkest days" in the new series.

A new behind-the-scenes featurette was unveiled at the weekend (April 2-3) at the WonderCon fan convention in San Francisco. Watch the clip by scrolling down and clicking below.

In it, Smith reveals that the new series will see the Timelord pushed further than he has ever been before. "I think The Doctor is going to face his darkest days," he said. "I've always wanted to explore the dark bit of The Doctor and take him to that place and get him placed in that situation were he has choices that are so drastic that they tear him apart."

He added: "The Doctor is having to face a very great and present and dangerous evil, and without giving too much away, he’s got a huge battle on his hands."

Smith also revealed that a secret that companion Amy Pond is forced to keep from him will put strain between the pair. "The Doctor's relationship with Amy Pond is going to change forever," he said.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One and BBC America on May 23 with a two-part story filmed in the United States.
