EDEL IN BED WITH NAPSTER
NAPSTER has joined forces with the German independent record label EDEL MUSIC.

The deal, which follows from the revelation last year that Napster had formed a strategic alliance with music giant BMG, will mean that recordings owned by Edel can be used on the controversial file-sharing network as part of their new service, according to the BBC.

Speaking about the deal, Edel chief executive Michael Haentjes described the deal as a "a very logical step", while Napster CEO Hank Barry said they were "delighted" that a "progressive and successful label like Edel has stepped forward and recognised that the interests of music lovers and music makers are both enhanced by the service that Napster is developing".

In the UK, Edel have, amongst many others Chicane, Aaron Carter and Carl Cox, according to their website www.edel.co.uk.

However, a number of other major record labels under the banner of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) continue to sue Napster for copyright infringement.
