The Drums, Franz Ferdinand, Mogwai and Jim Sclavunos of Grinderman and Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds have spoken out over the pending execution of Troy Davis in Georgia, United States.

The 42-year-old has been on death row since his 1991 conviction of killing a policeman in Savannah in 1989. However, there have been longstanding doubts about his guilt. There is no physical evidence and Davis has always pleaded innocent to the crime. Seven out of nine witnesses have retracted or changed their initial testimonies.

Amnesty International gave the local authorities a petition with 650,000 signatories asking that Davis' sentence be commuted.

The Orb, Primal Scream producer Andrew Weatherall and Keane's Richard Hughes are also supporting Amnesty's Too Much Doubt campaign against the sentence. Hughes visited Davis in 2009 and has said:

More than 650,000 people have already expressed their grave concerns about this case and we’re now down to just a few days to save Troy’s life. I promised him when I met him on death row that I wouldn’t stop fighting to prevent his execution and that’s what I’m going to do.
