British Olympic champion Mo Farah has agreed to appear as a mentor on The X Factor, according to reports.

Simon Cowell's TV talent show behemoth is set to return to screens on ITV tonight and, according to the Sun, the music mogul has been in talks with the double gold medalist to feature in the new series of the programme.

Insiders claim that Cowell wants the new series to capture the "spirit" of London 2012 and the show's producers are trying to recruit members of Team GB to appear on an Olympics-themed episode.

A source said:

Teaming up with our athletes means they can offer training and pep talks. People like Mo know about dedication and hard work. It's only right we invite them to help us shape our future popstars.

Farah's Olympics exploits have won him numerous fans in the music industry. Earlier this week, Noel Gallagher dedicated 'Supersonic' to the long-distance runner during a War Child benefit gig in London and later published a blog post praising the Olympic athlete. Speaking about being present in the Olympic stadium to watch Farah win the 10,000m, he wrote: "Now I've been to the biggest sporting events on the planet and I've done some monster shows but to be in that stadium and feel the noise and witness the fitness of the great Mo Farah was simply incredible."

Mo Farah won gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m during this summer's games. His victory in the 10,000m attracted the highest viewing figures of any event at the Olympics, as 17 million people tuned in to BBC's coverage of the long-distance runner's race.
