Feeder help cassette single sales triple in 2012 – to 604 units!
Cassette single sales tripled in 2012 to a not-so-whopping 604 units, mostly thanks to Welsh rockers Feeder.

The band sold 480 copies of their January 2012 single 'Borders' helping push the total number of cassette singles sold in the UK from 218 to 604, according to figures released from The Official Charts Company. The track, which was the first time Feeder had released a cassette single since 2001’s 'Just A Day', was taken from the band's eighth album 'Generation Freakshow'. 'Borders' peaked at Number 52 on the Official Singles Chart.
Cassette album sales reached 3,823 units sold in the UK in 2012, with French singer Charles Aznavour’s 'She – The Best Of' the best seller.

In related news, some 270 albums were sold on MiniDisc (remember them?) in the UK in 2012.

Overall, on all formats, the sales of albums in the UK fell by 10 per cent in 2012. The statistics, released by the BPI, also reveal that the CD album market shrunk by a fifth, with sales of albums on CD down 19.5 per cent year-on-year with 69.4million albums sold.

Sales of digital and physical albums combined fell overall again by 11.2 per cent to 100.5million over the past 12 months – although singles sales hit a new high.

Despite the overall fall, 16 albums released in 2012 sold over 100,000 copies and digital album sales rose 14.8 per cent to 30.5million. Emeli Sandé's 'Our Version Of Events' was the best-selling album of the year, selling 1.4million copies.
