The billionth single download has been sold in the UK.

The Official Charts Company reports that the billionth single download was sold late last night (April 8), nine years after legal song downloads were launched in the UK.

Since 2004, sales of singles downloads have increased from 500,000 a week to more than three million a week.

The most downloaded single of all-time is Adele's 'Someone Like You', followed by Maroon 5's 'Moves Like Jagger' and Gotye's 'Somebody That I Used To Know'. Scroll down for the all-time Official Singles Download Chart Top 10.

Official Charts Company managing director Martin Talbot commented:

"The explosion in download sales over the past nine years means we are genuinely now living in the digital music age – with Adele as our queen! Over the nine years of legitimate digital music, more than 16 new tracks have sold 1 million copies, which emphasises just how popular digital music is in the modern age."

The All-Time Official Singles Chart Top 10 is:

1. 'Someone Like You' - Adele
2. 'Moves Like Jagger' - Maroon 5 ft Christina Aguilera
3. 'Somebody That I Used To Know' - Gotye Ft Kimbra
