A woman has been arrested in America after assaulting her boyfriend when he refused to stop singing the Macklemore song 'Thrift Shop'.

Samantha Malson reportedly pushed and choked her boyfriend, Lars Hansen, after he sang the song, a Number One hit in the UK and US in 2013, 25 times in a row. The couple, from Longmont, Colorado, were visited by police on Saturday (April 6) after receiving a domestic disturbance report. The 23-year-old is reported to have admitted to the crime, and stated that both her and her boyfriend were drunk at the time. Malson has subsequently been charged with harassment, domestic violence and assault, according to a Boulder County Sheriff's Office report.

Extracts from the Longmont Police report, attained by The Smoking Gun, state that "Malson said that she asked Hansen '25 times' to stop singing. Malson said, 'He just annoyed me' and 'I pushed him'. Malson demonstrated this (without me asking or prompting) by shoving her fingertips into the air repeatedly. She said she pushed him a couple of times and, 'I grabbed him around the throat,' showing me her left hand in a choking type hold. Malson then said, 'I did it for intimidation'.''

Macklemore spent one week at the top of the Official UK Singles Chart with 'Thrift Shop' in February. The song is taken from the rapper's album 'The Heist'.
