The winner of the first season of The Voice, Leanne Mitchell, managed to sell only 895 copies of her debut album in its first week of sale.

The singer, who won the BBC TV talent show in 2012, reached a disappointing Number 134 in this weekend's Official Album Chart. As Radio Times points out, this equates to one record for every 10,000 people who watched her triumph in the innaugural series of the talent show. The album flop follows poor single sales after the show ended last June – she only reached Number 45 with her cover of Whitney Houston's 'Run To You'.

One of the show's judges will.i.am, blamed her record label Universal for stalling the release. In an interview with Digital Spy, he said: "We had a hole in the system. There were all these people singing on television and then one of them wins. Directly after they win - I don't know what happened. I don't know if the label engaged and surrounded it."

He added: "I don't think the rushing happened and if it did, it was too slow. Especially in this day and age when everything changes every 20 seconds on Twitter. You go from something being hot to 'Oh, it's not hot anymore'."

At the end of this month, the programme hit a ratings low of ratings low of 5.9 million, a reported 1.48 million down from the previous episode.
