Simon Cowell has addressed rumours that he is set to become a father for the first time having got the wife of a close friend pregnant.

Cowell has remained silent on the tabloid rumours so far but spoke about the allegations while attending the Television Critics press tour in Los Angeles last night (August 1). The X Factor mogul was quizzed on the suggestion that New York socialite Lauren Silverman is pregnant with a child and that he is the father. Silverman is the wife of real estate mogul Andrew Silverman, believed to be a personal friend of Cowell's.

"I haven't read the newspapers, did I miss anything?" Cowell is quoted as saying. Adding: "It's just one of those things," while saying he wanted to keep the issue "private". Cowell later told People: "There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there's a lot of people's feelings involved here."

Earlier this year it was confirmed that Simon Cowell is working with comedian Harry Hill on an X Factor musical titled 'I Can't Sing!'. The show will run at the London Palladium from 2014 and is said to feature "a singing hunchback, a talking dog and a man in an iron lung," as well as an explanation behind the height at which Simon Cowell wears his trousers.

'I Can’t Sing!' will spend a month in previews before it officially opens on March 26, 2014.
