HMV will return to its flagship 363 Oxford Street store in London on Saturday (September 28).

The shop, which HMV first opened more than 90 years ago, will open its doors at 8:30am. The retail giant first opened in the address in 1921 and remained in the property until 2000 before relocating. The store was where The Beatles cut the demo disc that led to them meeting George Martin and signing their recording contract with EMI in 1961.

The 363 Oxford Street shop will host a launch event soon to welcome HMV back to its spiritual home. Details of the launch event are yet to be announced but will coincide with a nationwide programme of events across the chain later in the year.

HMV, which was bought out of administration in April by restructuring firm Hilco, will replace the footwear chain Footlocker at the site when it reopens this weekend. As reported earlier this year, HMV has also hired former Vodafone executive James Coughlan to head its new online business.

HMV collapsed into administration in January with £176 million of debt. It now operates 140 stores.
