Fence was broken down as gatecrashers tried to enter dance festival Ultra in Miami

Security guard in critical condition after disturbance at Ultra Festival
Security guard Erica Mack is in a critical condition at Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital after gatecrashers broke down a chainlink fence while trying to get into Ultra Festival in Miami.

Mack, 28, has suffered severe brain haemorrhaging and a broken leg after the disturbance at 9.30pm on Friday (March 29). According to Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt Ignatius Carroll, the gatecrashers pushed down a chainlink fence, which fell on Mack.

“Erica was doing what she was supposed to do, telling them to stop,” said Lt Carroll. “They just trampled her.” Twenty two people have been arrested.

According to Billboard, calls for reinforcements at the area Mack was patrolling had been made several hours earlier, without any response. Most areas of the festival had “sturdier, unclimbable fences” compared to the area’s chainlink fencing.

Ultra has been carrying on, despite the disturbance. It's due to end tonight (March 30). Miami mayor Tomas Regalado told Miami Herald: “I think we should not have Ultra next year here. This incident should never have happened.” Regalado accused Ultra organisers of “acting irresponsibly” over security.

The festival stars Dizzee Rascal, MIA, Tiesto, MGMT, Empire Of The Sun, Chase And Status, David Guetta and Afrojack. Avicii had to pull out of his performance to have his gall bladder removed.
