Musicians from the world of dance music and beyond have paid tribute to DJ and producer Frankie Knuckles, who has died, aged 59.

Artists from across the musical spectrum, including Disclosure, Yannis Philippakis of Foals, Wu-Tang Clan and Jagwar Ma, have all reacted to the news that Knuckles, Known as the 'Godfather Of House', has passed away.

Knuckles was widely credited with being one of the founders of the post-disco Chicago house scene and is believed to have died from complications with diabetes.

Knuckles was the musical director of South Loop nightclub The Warehouse – where house music got its name from. It was there that he first started mixing disco and European electronic tracks. He later ran his own venue, the Power Plant. Born in The Bronx in 1955, he began DJing in New York in the early '70s while he was still a teenager, before he moved to Chicago.

Other names lining up to share memories of Knuckles include Pete Tong, Giles Peterson, Questlove, Paul Epworth, Django Django, Annie Mac, Nicolas Jaar, Jackmaster, Nick Grimshaw, Zane Lowe, Wiley, Tim Burgess, Major Lazer and Ed Simons of The Chemical Brothers. See below for a list of tributes to the late DJ and producer.
