Wembley Arena is to be renamed The SSE Arena from June.

The London venue will switch names on June 1 after AEG Worldwide signed a 10-year naming rights deal with energy company SSE. As well as renaming the venue, Music Week reports SSE will also invest in refurbishment, with customer lounges set to be installed and foyers and concourses to be upgraded.

Tom Miserendino, CEO, AEG Europe commented: "Wembley is one of the world’s most iconic venues, steeped in history with some of the greatest artists having performed under its roof. Over the last few years, however, the venue landscape in the UK and Europe has changed with many more venues for artists and acts to choose from."

The final event to be staged at the 12,500 capacity Wembley Arena before it is renamed will be a UK garage revival concert featuring performances from Kele Le Roc, Ms Dynamite, Artful Dodger and Sweet Female Attitude on May 31.

Other acts set to perform at the venue in 2014 include Bring Me The Horizon (pictured right), The Saturdays and Barry Manilow as well as comedians Lee Evans, Miranda Hart and John Bishop.

The renaming of Wembley Arena by SSE follows a similar move with Glasgow venue The SSE Hydro, which has a capacity of 13,000 and opened in 2013.
