Nas has revealed that he is working on a new album with producers Timbaland, Swizz Beatz and No ID.

The rapper told NPR that he’s been working on his next album for the past year and a half and has been inspired by the celebrations surrounding the 20th anniversary of his debut 'Illmatic', which he will perform in full at London festival Lovebox later this year.

Commenting on his time in the studio with Timbaland, Nas says: "It felt really powerful... I stepped back from it... I felt like I needed to be inspired. I'm happy to say I'm at a place where it feels right."

Nas also revealed that the recent Time Is Illmatic documentary helped him gain perspective on his career. "Them showing me the footage really lets you know where you come from and everything, and where you at now... That's helped me find the inspiration."

He continues: "I made it for other MCs, I made it for other hip-hop groups, I made it for artists, singers, people in the arts — that's who I made it for. But it comes from the street, so my surroundings wrote that album. I made it for them."

Nas, who in 2013 was voted the best rapper of all time by NME.COM readers, released his most recent album 'Life Is Good' in 2012.
