DJ Rashad dies at 35
Chicago DJ was a pioneer of footwork and juke
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, a friend found Harden's body in an apartment on the 2100 block of West 21st Street yesterday (Saturday April 26). A post-mortem is reportedly due to be carried out today.
The news was broken on Twitter yesterday afternoon by DJ Godfather, who had been due to play alongside Rashad and DJ Spinn in Detroit that evening. He tweeted:
R.I.P. to my long time friend DJ Rashad. Great friend & producer. I loved all the music we released over the years. U will be missed!— DJ Godfather (@DJ_Godfather) April 27, 2014
The producer and DJ was considered a pioneer of the footwork scene. Last year he released 'Double Cup' on Hyperdub, which NME's review called: "the sound of the genre at its most bonkers, with the scene’s most brazen producer churning out never-before-heard sounds."
Chance The Rapper was among the many artists to pay respect to DJ Rashad on Twitter, saying:
Music lost a legend today. And he was my friend. Love you DJ Rashad. RIP— Chance The Rapper (@chancetherapper) April 27, 2014
