DJ Rashad's label Hyperdub confirm cause of his death remains unknown

The late DJ Rashad's label Hyperdub have issued a statement following the musician's death at the age of 34.

As reported, Rashad Harden's body was discovered by a friend in an apartment in Chicago on Saturday (April 26). The cause of his death has not yet been determined. Local reports claim police report Rashad's body was found surrounded by narcotics and drug paraphernalia with an overdose suspected.

A message from British label Hyperdub, who released DJ Rashad's critically acclaimed 2013 album 'Double Cup', issued yesterday (April 28) pays tribute to musician and revealed the employees are "devastated by his passing."

Kode9, Hyperdub owner, says: "I was honored to release music from Rashad on Hyperdub. I've only known him for around 3 years, but he had become a good friend and one of my biggest musical influences. He was one of the funniest, most positive people I've ever met and a true innovator. Everyone at the label is devastated by his passing and wish to send our sincere condolences to all his friends and family in Chicago, the Teklife crew and anyone anywhere who was graced by his presence and uplifted by his music. I'll never forget singing duet with him in a karaoke bar in Tokyo."

Tributes from the dance music community have been paid to Rashad following his death with Disclosure labelling him an "inspirational pioneer of an amazing wave of music." Chance The Raper, who toured with Rashad in 2013, also honoured the late musician, stating "Music lost a legend."

Rashad's final release, the 'We On 1' EP came out via Houston-based label called Southern Belle today (April 28). He is survived by his son, Chad, 9; and his parents, Anthony and Gloria.
