A charity single featuring Stephen Sutton, the teenager whose battle with cancer has seen him raise £4m for charity, is to be released.

The song is titled 'Hope Ain't A Bad Thing' and is being released as a personal tribute to Sutton by a group of musicians inspired by Sutton's life and achievements. All the proceeds from the sale of the record will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The song was mixed at a music studio in Sutton's home town of Burntwood, Staffordshire and is produced by Nothing Personal. It features him delivering a speech and also playing tambourine.

Mike Wood, who coordinated the song, spoke to The Guardian about the "overwhelming" response he had to an advert he placed on Facebook looking for musicians to be involved in the project. "We had so many people that in the end I had to turn musicians away," says Wood, who plays bass on the track. "We were getting hundreds of messages every day about it – and I knew we had to make it happen."

Pianist Shane Mason also appears on the record and said: "I was never fortunate enough to meet Stephen, but he was an inspiration. We've had the blessing from the family, and both Chris [Sutton's older brother) and Jane [his mother] came to see us in the studio last week, and are behind us 100%."

Meanwhile, it was recently announced that the main stage at this year's Download Festival will be named after Stephen Sutton, who died of cancer earlier this year.

Sutton was a big music fan and put attending Download on his "bucket list" of things to do after being diagnosed with the illness three years ago. He went to the festival in 2013 and was due to go again this year but sadly passed away earlier this month (May).

'Hope Ain't A Bad Thing' will be available as a digital download on iTunes and Amazon from Monday.
