Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Courtney Love and Nirvana's Kurt Cobain, has said that Gerard Way's new solo material is going to "knock people on their asses".

Cobain is a friend of the former My Chemical Romance singer and has spoken to NME about his new solo material, which she has heard. Way put out his first song, 'Action Cat', last night (June 11).

"I'm really excited for Gerard. He's been working on this project for a while and its sound and vibe is the polar opposite from My Chemical Romance," Cobain told NME. "I've watched him evolve over nine years of friendship and I think this is the best music he's ever produced. It's gritty, stripped down, raw and lyrically poetic in a way he hasn't explored before. It's gonna knock people on their asses, whether it's a positive reaction or not."

Way will play his first ever solo shows at this year's Reading and Leeds Festivals. Earlier this year Way launched his own official website, Gerardway.com, with a blog post confirming that he had inked a deal with Warner Bros Records for his solo album.

My Chemical Romance announced their split in 2013 but released a greatest hits collection earlier this year.
