Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Chris Denning has pleaded guilty to a string of sex offences.

Denning was first arrested in April 2013 as part of Operation Yewtree, the investigation into sexual abuse launched in the aftermath of the Jimmy Savile paedophile scandal. Earlier today (August 6), at a hearing at Southwark Crown Court, he admitted to 29 charges of abuse against boys aged between 9 and 16, between 1967 and 1984.

Denning also denied 12 other charges, reports BBC News and will stand trial for those offences beginning November 24. The trial is expected to last two weeks.

The former DJ admitted to charges of indecent assault and three of indecency with a child, but denied more counts of indecent assault, indecency with a child and more serious sexual offences. Denning was remanded in custody.

The 73-year-old was one of the original DJs on BBC Radio 1 when it launched in 1967, after working as an announcer on BBC2.
