Glastonbury Festival announce Block9 details

The festival's dance music and alternative performance area will now open from 4pm each day

Glastonbury Festival have announced details of Block9.

The festival’s dance music and alternative performance area now has an earlier opening time. Traditionally opening in the evening, Block9 will now be open from 4pm each day from Friday.

Block9 also reveal producer Cerrone will lead their official opening party on Thursday June 25. He will be performing live in Genosys, one of the three installations / staging areas that make up the Block9 site alongside NYC Downlow and London Underground.

Writing on the Glastonbury website, organisers said:

“A 24-hour wonderland of heavyweight sound systems, underground nightclubs, huge artworks and extremely alternative performance, Block9 is home to three jaw-dropping installations.”

“This year Block9 will also be throwing open the gates early at 4pm every day from Friday onwards, so they can squeeze 12 more hours of amazing dance acts into their best ever line-up.”

Block9 confirmed the following line-up:

Cerrone, Robert Hood, Sven Von Thulen, Phuture (Live), Awesome Tapes From Africa, Prosumer and Mr G (Live), Erol Alkan, Mark E

NYC Downlow
Joe Claussell, Honey Dijon, DJ Pierre, Point G, Andy Butler (Hercules & Love Affair), DJ Pierre, Dungeon Meat, Greg Belson, Horse Meat Disco, Tama Sumo, Gideon, Eats Everything

London Underground
Jah Shaka, Loefah, Youngsta, Fabio, Flight, Marcus Intalex, Mella Dee

Earlier this week (May 6), The Who were announced as the third and final headliner of the festival. They will join the Foo Fighters and Kanye West, who headline the Friday and Saturday nights of the festival respectively.

The Who‘s Roger Daltrey said of the announcement: “It’s great to be ending this part of a 50-year career at the most prestigious and respected music festival in the world. We’ll do our best to close this year’s event with a bang, unless of course the fireworks get wet!”

Acts to play the festival include Florence + The Machine, Jamie T, Alt-J, Patti Smith, Super Furry Animals, Jungle, The Chemical Brothers, Suede, The Vaccines, The Maccabees, Motorhead, Alabama Shakes, Paloma Faith, Mark Ronson, Run The Jewels, Future Islands, The Fall, Pharrell Williams, Franz Ferdinand & Sparks, La Roux, Fat White Family and Kate Tempest.

Glastonbury 2015 will run from June 24-28 at its traditional home of Worthy Farm, Somerset.
