Bullet For My Valentine are on course to reach Number One in the Official UK Album Chart this week, with only Cilla Black standing between them and the top spot.

'Venom', by the Welsh metal band, was released on Friday (August 14) and is at Number One at the time of writing (August 17), one position ahead of Cilla Black's 'The Very Best Of'. That album has proved popular since Black's death earlier this month and rises from its position at Number Eight last week.

Official Chart Company data shows there is currently just 1,000 sales between the two acts. Should Bullet For My Valentine hold on to the top position, it would mark their first ever chart-topping record. Two of their previous albums, 'Scream Aim Fire' and 'Fever', both peaked at Number Five in 2008 and 2010 respectively.

Also new in the Top 10 at today's midweek point is the new album from UK pop-punk act Neck Deep. Their album 'Life’s Not Out To Get You' is new at Number Seven while US blues band Vintage Trouble are new at Number Ten with '1 Hopeful Rd.'

Former Gallows and Pure Love frontman Frank Carter is back in the chart with new band Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, entering at Number 13 with debut 'Blossom', while Soulfly are heading for a second UK Top 40 entry with new release 'Archangel' (27).

In the Official Single Chart, Jess Glynne could match a record set by Cheryl Fernandez-Versini if her new single enters at Number One this week. Her 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself' is currently in the Number One spot and, should it stay there, will become her fifth Number One hit; a record for a British solo female only held by Fernandez-Versini.

Glynne’s previous chart toppers are 'Rather Be' (with Clean Bandit), 'My Love' (with Route 94), 'Hold My Hand' and 'Not Letting Go' (with Tinie Tempah).

The full chart rundown is announced on BBC Radio 1 this Friday (August 21).
