Velvet Revolver look online for new singer

Band turn to the net for Scott Weiland's replacement

Velvet Revolver are set to hold an online audition to replace singer Scott Weiland.

According to the band's guitarist Slash, the group are building a website to bring in singers over the next month.

He said: "The band is actually talking about building a Web site [and] doing some auditions via that, so that's been something that's developing at this point.

"We're at that point of just listening to different things... it's one of those kind of situations where you can't really explain it to anybody because you'll know it when you hear it. So I'm waiting to get that feeling of, 'Yeah that's it.'"

The band are due to play a forthcoming gig in Las Vegas which will see a number of singers take up vocal duties.

Slash told Billboard: "I'm not gonna name any names, but a bunch of well-known people will get up and sing some songs, and then also bring up a couple people that we think are pretty good and might sing a couple songs."

As previously reported on NME.COM Weiland left the band on April 1 and immediately rejoined his old group Stone Temple Pilots, who are due to embark on a reunion tour in the summer.

well, I'm glad Stone Temple Pilots are reforming because they were amazing. However, on the other hand, it's a shame because Scott Weiland and Slash had great stage presence together. Oh well, hope the new singer will be as great!

If Axl and the band were to shake hands and say "hey a lot of crap has passed, and we're all getting on a bit. How's about we do what we know best? - It would be amazing. The only ideal people that have always fitted together: Axl and Slash......and the rest of the Velvet Revolver team....Failing this - I'm a singer and I'll definitely audition for VR. They need me....

Come to think of it, what about Duff singing with Slash and Matt on backing vocals? - Hell, if Sting and Paul McCartney can do it- I'm sure Duff can? He sounds so excellent singing "So fine", and "Can't put your arms round a memory"- I think he sung that too? Plus they'd keep it in the band AND keep all old and new fans! Wohoo..Any comments welcome.

I would just like to say that VR has satisfied my need for a real kickin' modern rock band for the past several years. When I first heard the guitar tones on "Sucker Train Blues," it put me immediately back on my bedroom floor trying to mimick the tones on Appetite. It has been a cool ride. Sorry it didn't last. Weiland was great for the band. Can they go on? ...?My childish wish is for the original Guns to kick it once more. Is that a good idea?... I don't know. There is a singer from the British(I think) band called "Must." I don't remember his name but he made me think once that he might be good for this line up....
