The Velvet Underground – rare vinyl available for auction
It was originally bought for 38 pence
A rare vinyl acetate of The ’s early studio recordings has appeared on an online auction.
The acetate dates from a 1966 recording at Scepter Studios in New York, which was overseen by mentor Andy Warhol.
The album was then bought by record collector Warren Hill for 75 cents (38 pence) at a record fair in New York in 2002.
Yesterday (December 5) on eBay bidding reached £65,700 ($130,000).
Hill claims that the vinyl contains the definite version of the band’s 1967 debut ’The Velvet Underground and Nico’.
According to Uncut.co.uk, although five of the tracks are the same as the commercially released album (but mixed differently), the songs ’Heroin’, ’I’m Waiting For The Man’, ’European Son’ and ’Venus In Furs’ are different recordings.
