The pop star performed an acoustic cover of the John Lennon staple on the eve of the US election
Madonna played a last-minute surprise show in support of Hillary Clinton in New York City.
The pop star invited fans to join her at Washington Square in an Instagram post yesterday evening.
“Meet me in Washington Square Park at 7:30. Let’s go hard for Hillary Clinton,” the 58-year-old wrote.
Despite only giving followers half an hour notice, Madonna drew a large crowd for her impromptu gig, reports New York Daily News.
The singer opened with ‘Express Yourself’ followed by her hits, ‘Rebel Heart’ and ‘Like a Prayer’.
She finished off the 20-minute set with a cover of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’, telling the crowd “We must keep America the great country that it is.”
Madonna isn’t the only musician to perform for the Democratic presidential candidate.
Last night, Lady Gaga closed off the former Secretary of State’s final rally dressed in a jacket that belonged to Michael Jackson. The pop star’s choice of clothing caused controversy on social media after some mistook it for a Nazi uniform.
